I'm not turning producer: Katrina Kaif

Katrina Kaif has denied reports of her turning producer with a remake of French film “A la folie...pas du tout” and said she is happy with the way her acting career is shaping up.

“I have no clue from where these rumours originate. It all seems to be coming out of thin air. There was never any indication by me in this regard,” Katrina said.

There were reports that Katrina was playing a student in love with a married doctor in the remake of the French film “A la folie...pas du tout” (“He Loves Me...He Loves Me Not“). While she urges him to leave his pregnant wife, he doesn’t reciprocate accordingly.

“Well, sounds like an interesting story. However, any talk centred on the production of this film or any other movie for that matter is plain speculation,” the actress said.

Katrina lights up when the talk veers to the super success of “Ajab Prem Ki Ghazab Kahani”.

“Well, yes, we have got an amazing reaction for the film. Honestly, that was never really expected. Hence the way it has opened and sustained itself so well is pretty much a pleasant surprise,” said Katrina who teamed up with Ranbir Kapoor in the romantic comedy.

She is aware that now suddenly everybody feels that Katrina and Ranbir make the hottest on—screen pair and should be seen in more movies.

“Of course, if a good film comes in, I would love to do a film with Ranbir. However, I can’t just look at my co-star — I should have an amazing role, the script should be good and so should be the director. Even if one of these anchors fall down, the movie can’t be expected to fetch great results,” she said.

Katrina would be next seen in Priyadarshan’s “De Dana Dan” opposite Akshay Kumar that releases this Friday.

For someone who was written off six years ago after the release of “Boom” (2003), she has indeed come a long way with more than five hits in two years.

Does she get impacted by people’s adulation?

“Frankly, I take it all with a pinch of salt. One can never get too carried away in this industry because at the end of the day, it doesn’t achieve you anything at all. The best way is to look at the work you are doing and continue to make careful choices,” Katrina said.

In a freewheeling chat with Zee News' Swati Chaturvedi onKahiye Janab, Katrina Kaif talks at length about her professional and personal life.

Swati: Once again, welcome to Kahiye Janab. What is Ajab Katrina Ki Ghazab Kahani?

Katrina: (Smiles) Thank you. You see, the beauty about Bollywood is that there are no absolutes. It is an enigma where there are no formulae to success. I always believe that nothing is impossible. My mom often said a Christian verse that goes like - with God, nothing is impossible. Maybe it is the same thing that stayed in my mind whether it was heartbreak or a failure. I don’t get bogged by negativity. I am a focused person who works with dedication.


Swati: Your co-stars often say that you are a hardworking actor.

Katrina: Well, I believe in working hard, positive energy and enthusiasm that often show on-screen.


Swati: You are known to be a bully; both your co-stars Ranbir Kapoor and Neil Nitin Mukesh say so. What’s your take on it?

Katrina: (laughs) There is an old technique in the army i.e. diversion. You see, you need to know both Ranbir and Neil. Even though I am senior to them in Bollywood, but technically speaking, Ranbir is two years elder to me and Neil is three years elder to me. So, they keep coming up with lots of stuff and I am like yes sir.


Swati: How will you compare Akshay Kumar with Neil Nitin Mukesh and Ranbir Kapoor?

Katrina: Akshay is a senior actor, a family man, who has been in the industry for the past twenty years. He comes to work on time and leaves the sets on time. He is a dedicated actor and I have learnt a lot from him. He is like a mentor.


Swati: Akshay is a good actor, yet, when film like ‘Chandni Chowk to China’ came, people said that Akshay is a flop without Katrina. How do you see it?

Katrina: Well, there are certain unkind things about this industry and superstition is one of them. I am religious but not superstitious. Trust me, there will come a day when a film does not work for you. Audience may like a film and sometimes they won’t. In my case, like we worked hard for ‘Yuvvraaj’ so did Akshay in ‘Chandni Chowk to China.’


Swati: Are you playing Sonia Gandhi in ‘Rajneeti’?

Katrina: No I am not playing Sonia Gandhi in ‘Rajneeti’, but yes the soul of the film is politics. It is based on the lives of six characters that are all intertwined. When I first heard the role from Prakash Jha, the director of ‘Rajneeti’, I thanked him for making realistic cinema and giving a critical role to a woman character.


Swati: From glamorous roles, how did you pull off a de-glamorized role for ‘Rajneeti’?

Katrina: I believe that you should be desirable as a person. There is beauty in simplicity. In the film ‘Rajneeti’, I play a normal girl who does not put any appearances and I am much like that in real life.


Swati: How does it feel to be India’s sexiest woman and the most searched name on Google?

Katrina: I’ll share a funny story; recently I was on a holiday with my family in London. I was really tired and some people passed by on an escalator and said that she looks tired and doesn’t appear as she does on-screen. I don’t consider myself sexiest, I consider myself very normal.

Swati: How do you deal with the whole concept of media image?

Katrina: If you are going to live your life through trial by media, then you have to go by the audiences rather than your own likes and dislikes. Okay, they are your fans but there will be a time when you have to do what your heart decides rather than what your audience wants. There are times when you come home and there is nobody around, quite unlike the movie sets. You do feel lonely at times, but at the same time I do feel privileged as there are wonderful people around me.

Swati: There are controversies and links up; there was a Neil Nitin Mukesh controversy and then recent being you as the reason behind Ranbir and Deepika breakup?

Katrina: Neil is a pure soul and he is of my age; we are friends. However, in case of Ranbir, unfortunately it is the nature of the industry. Ranbir and I just did a film together. It is a first love story I have done so far. I have done romantic films earlier, but not an out-and-out love story. I and Ranbir graduated from the Rajkumar Santoshi school. There is no truth in me being behind Ranbir and Deepika breakup. It’s just loose talk.

Swati: What about brand wars?

Katrina: I don’t see it that way. I don’t even know who the top five brand endorsers of the industry are! I just care about the films that I do. There is nothing such as I like to endorse or I don’t want to endorse. I endorse things that I believe in and have confidence in.

Swati: For ‘Rajneeti’ you have worked really hard on your Hindi. Did you ever think you will make it so big in Bollywood?

Katrina: I am working on my Hindi; yet, English is my first language as I am more comfortable while expressing myself in it. However, in Bollywood films it’s a working as we have scripts.


Swati: Rumours have it that Preity Zinta is studying at Harvard and Deepika plans to join an elite business school. Are you planning anything on the similar lines?

Katrina: No, but I am feeling a bit left behind. I really need to find something to do next! But I am happy with whatever I have.

Swati: Like other B-town couples, do you plan to buy an IPL team with Salman?

Katrina: (Blushes) Well, Salman can buy, but I cannot. Basically, I feel happy with whatever I am doing.

My backless shot not vulgar: Bebo

Kareena Kapoor says there is nothing "vulgar" about her backless shot being used for the publicity posters of forthcoming release "Kurbaan", an intense thriller about terrorism. In fact, she says, it subtly reveals a lot about the story.

"This shot of me in a backless posture and Saif with a wound on his chest tell so much about the film's theme," Kareena told IANS. "There is love, passion and violence - all combined in here and what better way than to show it through a single still? You too would agree that there is nothing sleazy or vulgar about it. Knowing the sensibilities of Karan Johar (producer) and Rensil D'Silva (director), that's the least one could have expected," she added.

Kareena said that after Geet in "Jab We Met", her character of Avantika in "Kurbaan" will make people sit up and take notice. "The girl's role has a lot of edge in 'Kurbaan', something which starts becoming more and more visible as the film unfolds. In any case the film is not one of those cliched love stories. Every character has quite a few layers to it and Avantika, the character I play, is no exception. She is quite pivotal to 'Kurbaan'," she said.

Kareena plays a professor in "Kurbaan" who gets married to her colleague, played by Saif Ali Khan.


They move to New York after marriage, but as a series of events unfold she finds herself into a vortex of danger and intrigue. She further realises that she is a pawn in a huge game and no one could be trusted. "What made this role special is the fact that I play this young beautiful professor who is quite normal. She reacts to terrorism for the first time and life is never the same again for her," she said.
"Actually if you ask me, then technically 'Kurbaan' is the story of this girl. She is the light of the screen. I am sure people will cry with Avantika...so strong is her characterisation," the actress said. After "Jab We Met", Kareena was seen in "Main Aurr Mrs Khanna", "Kambakkth Ishq", "Tashan" and "Golmaal Returns". And except "Golmaal Returns", none of the films did well at the box office.

Kareena is delighted about the prospects of audiences seeing her in a different light after the film and says it is not a frothy romance drama. "'Kurbaan' has a deep-rooted love story to it, but it is not a frothy romantic film that we are time and again exposed to. The love story is much deeper here. There is a definite meaning, purpose and reason to it. Also, the film is quite powerful in its own way since it's the voice of moderate Islam," she said. The film, which also stars Vivek Oberoi, Om Puri, Kirron Kher and Dia Mirza, is releasing Nov 20.

New Delhi, Nov 13: Filmmaker Vipul Shah says he is worried about his friendship with Aishwarya Rai who is working in his film ‘Action Replay’ as people are making ’systematic attempts to destroy’ their relationship.

‘Aishwarya is a very respectable professional. It hurts to see how her sheer hard work is ridiculed to build one spicy story by the media. She has been a soft target. And the sort of rumours rising now can damage my relationship with her. She has been my friend for a long time and I am afraid I will have a fallout with her,’ Shah told IANS over phone from Mumbai.

‘There are certain people who are making systematic attempts to destroy my relationship with Aishwarya. There are gossip mongers who are spreading baseless rumours that she has refused to dub for ‘Action Replay’ after seeing the rushes. But none of this is true,’ he added.

Shah gives three reasons to prove that all the rumours are baseless.

‘Firstly, when the shooting of the film has not been completed, where’s the question of the rushes and dubbing? Secondly, I haven’t even seen the ‘edit’ of the film. After the shoot completes, it will take at least two and a half months to put it in order for a final cut; so there is no need for dubbing at the moment.

‘And lastly, ‘Action Replay’ is in sync sound, so dubbing is totally out of the question. Besides, I have been busy for ‘London Dreams’; Aishwarya has been busy shooting ‘Ravana’ and ‘Guzaarish’. She has been travelling [^] a lot so we didn’t even have time to take ‘Action Replay’ forward. What is the logic behind these rumours then?’ he added.

This apart, there were also rumours that Aishwarya had repeatedly rejected one of music composer Pritam Chakraborty’s song for the film. But Shah denies it.

‘It was I who had rejected Pritam’s song thrice, not Aishwarya. The song was for her entry in the film and I wanted to crack a big song. I never allow my actors to my music recording studio – then from where have these rumours come out from?’ he asked in an agitated tone.

Shah, who made hits like ‘Singh Is Kinng’ and ‘Namastey London’, is yet to shoot the last leg of the movie, which also features actor Akshay Kumar and Neha Dhupia.

‘The last schedule of the film is still pending. We have planned to shoot it in December or January. Currently I am doing the recce for the locations,’ he said.

Vidya Balan had a great fall!

A playful scene involving mother and child turned out to be not so playful for Vidya Balan.

A source close to Vidya informed, “Vidya had to shoot a scene with so-and-so who plays the child Amitabh Bachchan in Paa. The scene required Vidya to carry him on her shoulders.”


But there was a hitch.

The boy’s weight was as good as Vidya’s. “Vidya weighs 45 kilos and so did the plump boy. Vidya carried him on her shoulders nevertheless. The scene was being canned. And suddenly there was this loud thud. Vidya had lost balance and fallen on the ground along with the boy.”

Vidya got injured while doing the shot. “Balki told Vidya that he could postpone the shoot. But Vidya continued to shoot and the scene was canned successfully in the second take,” said our source.
