Meet Shriya Saran
Shriya Saran is the prototypal New Age Indian actress, who is beautiful, ambitious and bold. She is one of the leading ladies of South Indian Cinema, and is a known name in North India, post-'Sivaji The Boss'.
Shriya was born on September 11, 1982 in Haridwar.
Shriya began her career doing music videos; she also took acting classes in order to pursue a career in movies.
After her debut in 2001 with 'Ishtam', she gained star status with 'Santhosham' (2002), her first major hit.
In 2007, Saran became a national figure after her performance alongside Rajnikanth in 'Sivaji: The Boss'.
Shriya's career took off, post-'Shivaji'; she was signed up for several Bollywood, Tollywood and Kollywood movies (even a Hollywood offer came her way).
Shriya's most popular movies include 'Santhosham' (2002), 'Tagore' (2003), 'Sivaji: The Boss' (2007) and 'Kanthaswamy' (2009).
One of the biggest hits of her career has been the Telugu movie 'Chatrapati', opposite Prabhas.
Shriya is the brand ambassador of Lux and Head & Shoulders.
She made her Tamil movie debut with 'Enakku 20 Unakku 18' (2003); it was a musical hit rather than a B.O hit.
After a year-long hiatus, Shriya returned to Kollywood with 'Mazhai', opposite Jayam Ravi. The movie did well at the box-office.
Her recent releases have been 'Rowthiram' (Tamil), 'Chikku Bukku' (Tamil), 'Don Seenu' (Telugu).
Shriya has had more than her share of controversies. In January 2008, a Hindu organisation based in Chennai lodged a police complaint against Saran, objecting to the outfit worn by her during the 175th day celebration of her film, 'Sivaji'. Shriya tendered an unconditional apology for "wearing inappropriate skimpy attire".
Her upcoming movies are 'Casanovva', 'Winds of Change' and 'Komagata Maru'.
She donned the item girl avatar for 'Komaram Puli' starring Pawan Kalyan.
